We condemn the attacks by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic on minorities, the independence of cultural funds and organisations

Despite the fact that the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic regularly communicates its interest in cooperation and substantive dialogue with the cultural community, the opposite is happening. Concrete plans for fundamental changes in the field of culture are announced without any discussion, and outrageous attacks on minorities and specific NGOs are repeated. Moreover, everything that the independent cultural scene, as well as many public and state cultural institutions, has built up over the last 30 years is under threat.

The abolition of the current public funds financing arts and culture, or the fundamental limitation of their independence, autonomy and expertise, may lead to the end for a number of smaller and larger entities, restrictions on the presentation of new artworks and artistic freedom.
