WE INVITE YOU TO OUR WORKSHOP: CREATING A LIGHTING CONCEPT AND THE BASICS OF PROGRAMMING THE LIGHT COUNTER 1. -2. 2. 2020

Olli Hietajärvi (FI)

Škola Svetelného Dizajnu (School of Light Design):

Saturday – Sunday, 1.-2. 2. 2020

This two-day workshop is focused on two main topics, which are fundamental for the making of lighting design. One is the creation of a light concept with a lighting plan, another is more technical – programming the whole performance into the light counter.

The first day of the workshop will have more theoretical content. We will focus on the dramaturgy of light actions and will revise individual factors that influence the final lighting design. We will use a specific set-up and will describe lighting sources one by one and their foci. We will create a lighting plan and complete documentation of a lighting design. On the second day, workshop participants will work on their concepts of lighting designs, and process them into cue sheets and focus sheets. They will program and light the final ‘performance’ themselves. The most important task of the day will be the creation of lighting changes with, in advance, specifically defined characteristics (when a change occurs, when it ends, its duration – in, out, wait, follow; intensity, combining the program with sub-masters).

Olli Hietajärvi is a Finnish lighting designer. He studied lighting design at the Tampere University of Applied Science, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2009.

He has worked as a lighting designer for more than 15 years and his focus is on the field of live music. He divides his working time between executing his designs in the concert hall of Verkatehdas cultural center (www.verkatehdas.fi) in Hämeenlinne and freelance lighting design and technical production. Among his newest projects is the design of international performances of ALMA, a Finnish pop singer.

Olli is fascinated by contrasts. He is a fan of minimalist, simple, and effective design with an emphasis on a sensitive choice of shadows and intensities.

Date of the workshop: 1.-2. 2. 2020, 10:00 – 18:00

Place: Záhrada – Centrum nezávislej kultúry, Banská Bystrica

Entrance fee: 40/30 €, free for members of the Antena network

The workshop is intended for technicians and lighting designers, but it will surely be educational to directors and choreographers as well.
